Election debate

No wonder Australians are prioritizing Masterchef for their Sunday night viewing over political debate. As the current line-up stands, the Election Debate content is utterly flavourless. Despite Australia being at the threshold of worldwide, major economic and environmental changes, our two major party leaders will give us the bland evasion, spin, derision, sloganising and trivializing a now highly savvy public can no longer stomach. There will be very little the viewing public will learn and even less that allows them to discern between what the two parties are cooking up, having generally made a meal of their responsibilities to community leadership. How much more sustaining to include in the fare Bob Brown, who will give a direct and meaningful answer even if a potentially unpopular one, stay on topic, avoid personal attack, present intricate detail on complex issues, and in short, give not just the Greens’ million plus voters, but all Australians, something to digest. Including Bob Brown in the debate will be more than a side dish of vital Greens on the menu – he’ll give us all some substance.
