Sally Spain

Sally is a long term resident of the Gold Coast. Sally has a strong interest in the arts, education and writing poetry.

Sally was a Greens’ candidate in previous state elections and now is standing for Moncrieff for the Australian Greens.

Sally is a passionate advocate for transparent and responsible government, as well as social and environmental sustainability. She has been involved with the conservation movement, on the Gold Coast, protecting the most bio-diverse area in Australia, since she was a student.

Sally is principled and fair and will deliver fresh ideas with practical solutions for the residents of Moncrieff and has identified the following as key priorities:

* addressing the issue of climate change and working for long-term ecological sustainability
* reviewing laws to protect biodiversity and strengthen species protection in order to prevent species loss - e.g. by listing the koala as an endangered species
* increasing funding for local universities, which have the lowest per student capita funding of any in Australia
* properly promote the Gold Coast as a world city tourist destination
* encourage the establishment of major cultural centres including a ballet-drama theatre and an international school for drama on the Gold Coast
* immediately stop uranium mining and uranium processing because of the waste disposal problems
